Galveston

Just 20 minutes from South Houston, Galveston is a relaxing getaway for couples or families wanting a break from the city.

Galveston Island has every type of restaurant ranging from burgers to seafood to the best in fine dining. Many of the Island restaurants offer delicious food as well as a beautiful view of the water. There are also miles of beaches and many activities for you and your family to enjoy.

Galveston Island has been occupied since the early 1500's, serving as a home to Akokisa Indians (once thought to be the Karankawa Indians), the infamous pirate Jean Lafitte, "little Ellis Island," "the Wall Street of the Southwest," the richest city in Texas.

Directions from SouthFork: Head north on Hwy 288, exit FM 518, turn right, and follow FM 518 to I-45. Head south on I-45 and Galveston is approximately twenty minutes away!

Hermann Park

A great place to have fun and relax, either with your family or just by yourself, Hermann Park is one of Houston’s natural treasures. Hermann Park is a wonderful place to enjoy many different activities, such as visiting the Japanese Garden or Pioneer Log House Museum. Hermann Park is also home to an 18-hole golf course, one of Houston’s oldest municipal golf courses.

Created by city ordinance on March 15, 1916, the Department of Public Parks began with two facilities - Sam Houston Park and Hermann Park.

Today, in addition to the park grounds, Hermann Park is home to the Houston Zoo, the Houston Museum of Natural Science, and Miller Outdoor Theater.

Directions from SouthFork: From 288 North, exit MacGregor, turn left onto North MacGregor. Hermann Park begins once you cross Almeda at the first traffic light. Continue on North MacGregor, turning right at the next light onto MacGregor, and then right again onto Golf Course Dr., to reach the central parking lot and Zoo entrance.

Armand Bayou Nature Center

Come experience 2500 acres of diverse ecosystems. Surrounded by industry and residential areas it is literally 'nature at your doorstep'. Come walk through hardwood forests, gaze upon restored prairies of native grasses, and enjoy exploring the wetlands. Wildlife abounds with bison, wild deer, rabbits, raccoons, snakes and resident and migratory birds to mention just a few. An early 20th-century farmhouse teaches visitors about rural life in the early 1900s.

Directions from SouthFork: From Hwy 288 S, exit Hwy 6 S. Continue on Hwy 6 to FM 528 and turn left. Take FM 528 to Bay Area Blvd and turn left.

Kemah Boardwalk

Just 20 miles from Downtown Houston, The Kemah Boardwalk is the perfect family get-a-way.

Directions from SouthFork: From Hwy 288 N, exit FM 518. Take a right on FM 518. This turns into FM 2094 and will take you directly to Kemah!
